The Clyde Hill Police Department responds to approximately 5,000 calls for service each year. The City's crime index, a measure of the crime rate per thousand citizens, is one of the lowest in the state and does not include a high rate of serious crimes like robbery, assault, or rape. In 2011, Clyde Hill officers issued about 1,000 infractions, responded to over 2,000 house watch requests, investigated 36 DUIs and assisted neighboring departments with crime in their communities on 238 occasions.
A key tool the Clyde Hill Police Department uses to detect and deter crime is general patrol. Collectively the officers drive approximately 30 thousand miles in the community each year. In conjunction with general patrol, a heavy emphasis on traffic enforcement is provided, which improves the safety of the community and heightens police visibility. Bicycle Officers are also deployed during the spring and summer months, as well as during community events, in an ongoing effort to deter criminal behavior, enforce traffic, and increase interaction between community members and the police.
The Police Department is committed to working closely with the citizens of Clyde Hill and Yarrow Point and is anxious to respond to the needs and desires of the community. The department believes this will be accomplished by fostering a relationship of trust, respect and understanding.
