SOLICITING & PEDDLERS
Soliciting in Clyde Hill is allowed, but within a set of guidelines. The City's ability to regulate solicitors has been limited by a series of Court decisions. The Courts have said that the City cannot prohibit all solicitation because these rights are protected. However, the City can and has developed a set of solicitation regulations that are specified in Chapter 5.16 of the Clyde Hill Municipal Code.
Peddlers or solicitors must obtain a permit before going door to door in the City. Some organizations (e.g. charitable, religious or non-profit organizations as defined in the Code) may be eligible for an exemption to the permit requirements. Those selling products or services are required to obtain a permit and display their permit card upon request.
Solicitations are NOT allowed between the hours of 8:00 pm and 9:00 am.
If you are experiencing a problem with a solicitor or suspect they are operating without an appropriate permit please call the Police Department during office hours at 425-454-7187 or 911 (non-emergency) for Police assistance after regular business hours.
Residents are encouraged to find out more about the legitimacy of an organization prior to donating funds. The City and the Police Department are not affiliated with any door to door or phone solicitation. Washington State has a database of all registered charitable organizations that can be accessed here.
Applications for a peddler's license can be downloaded by clicking on the link to the right. The charge for each license is $25 per person per background check. Each person soliciting must complete their own application and have a valid photo ID at the time of submittal to the Police Department.
