Do I Need a Building Permit?
Building permits protect the community by insuring that minimum health and safety standards are met as prescribed by the International Building Code, which has been adopted by the State of Washington and the City of Clyde Hill. These standards protect your family and any future owners of your home.
Permit applications are reviewed by a certified Building Official. The Building Official verifies that the project meets building code requirements and complies with the City of Clyde Hill zoning code. During the project, the Building Inspector makes routine inspections to verify that work is being been done according to code and the approved building plans.
You will need a building permit for these types of projects:
- Any addition or project that alters the structure of your home
- Interior remodels valued over $1500
- Detached structures such as garages, pools, hot tubs, gazebos, fountains, arbors, trellises and walls over 30" above original grade
- Decks more than 30" above the ground
- Drainage systems
- New or replacement driveways
- New or replacement windows
- New or replacement hot water tanks, furnaces, air conditioning units and generators
- Landscaping or grading work where more than 50 yards of dirt is moved, imported or exported
- New roof or roof repair; a permit is required if there are structural upgrades or replacement, or if the new roofing material is substantially heavier in weight than the current roofing material (for example, changing from a composite roof to a clay tile roof)
